Appearance Manager

The Appearance Manager is an interface available to the board administrator that controls the appearance of the user interface. From the Appearance Manager, text on the topics page, the color scheme, the interface (frames/no frames), and the selected skin can be chosen. In addition, the board administrator can browse the on-line DiscusWare skin gallery, edit existing templates and configuration files, and regenerate the pages on the discussion board.

  • Top Page: Set text elements on the topics page, including the Title Words, Title Message, and Main Message.

  • Colors: Set the color and font scheme for your discussion board.

  • Interface: Choose frames vs. no frames and whether to generate the user interface from templates and skins or from static HTML documents.

  • Skins: Preview and choose the skin to use on your board, or browse the DiscusWare skin gallery to find a new skin.

  • Editor: Edit existing templates, skin files, and configuration files.

  • Regeneration: Regenerate your entire board, or just one topic on your board, from the skins and templates. You might want to do this if you just got done changing the skin or color scheme.

Comments:

  1. The Appearance Manager incorporates certain aspects of the version 3.10 and before Board Manager. Among the former Board Manager features now in Appearance Manager are: text on the topics page, color scheme, and board regeneration.

  2. The Appearance Manager also incorporates certain aspects of the version 3.10 Template Manager. Skin selection and the on-line file editor are now incorporated into the Appearance Manager.

  3. The Appearance Manager adds new features not found in previous versions of Discus. These include DiscusWare's on-line skin gallery and the Interface tab, which for the first time in the administration interface allows the selection of frames vs. no-frames.
