Options Manager -- Archives and Searching

These options are set from the Other tab of the Options Manager interface.

The following options control miscellaneous settings for archived messages and how they are treated within searches. For the purposes of this section, archived messages are any messages on pages that were created using the "Archive Manager" function in Discus Pro. These messages and pages might have been created using an automatic archiving function or a manual archiving function from within the Archive Manager.

  • Leave "Add a Message" box on in pages archived by subtopic: If checked, when you perform archiving by thread (sometimes called 'paging' of subtopics), the inactive subtopics that were moved onto a separate page will retain their "Add a Message" box, allowing continued posting. If unchecked, you are setting up your board to prevent posting to inactive threads, which redirects all discussion to the most active parts of the discussion board. The default, and recommendation of DiscusWare, is to leave this box unchecked.

  • Skip archives in "New Messages" searches: If checked, and searching by date is performed (including searches over the last 1/3/7 days started by clicking a shortcut hyperlink such as "Last Day"), archives will not be considered for display in those search results. This is generally recommended, since the purpose of searching by date is generally to locate active threads.

  • Skip archives in "Tree View": If checked, when the tree view is invoked, archives will not be included in the display. This is recommended to improve the speed of the rendering of tree view results.

  • Sort archives at bottom of subtopic lists from ______: When checked, Discus Pro will automatically force archives to the bottom of subtopic lists, and sort them by date (from top to bottom either 'oldest to newest' or 'newest to oldest'). This is recommended to cause active threads to appear first, followed by all archived threads.
