A New Me:  With this edition, you will be viewing a new style of column offering from me.  As I start my second year as an IDPE editor, I'm following through on talks PE Links people had at AAHPERD '02 in San Diego.  Briefly, we decided that section editors would be responsible for creating fewer columns per year but produce a higher quality product for readers.  We were tasked with producing columns that adhered to a thematic thread both within and across the section(s) and provided meatier substance (i.e., fewer links and more thoughts committed to virtual paper).  To this end, I strived to assemble a column that capitalizes on the holiday and vacation themes that permeate December teaching, and although providing fewer nuggets, ensuring that each section entry is at least 24-carats in idea value to you.  I hope you notice the difference and that you let me know of any ideas or topics you'd like to share or have me share with you.  See you next year :-}

 Vacation Integration

Winter vacation offers teachers and students a well-deserved opportunity to rest and recreate, and unfortunately too much time and temptation to disengage from all content areas, physical activity (PA) included.  However, with the ideas offered on this page, you won't have to worry about vacation slothfulness--brain and PA fun that will last for weeks.

 Not So Ordinary Journal Topics

Keeping a journal over vacations has become a popular, and if planned and reinforced properly, a well received assignment in middle and high school physical education programs.  Journal topics that relate to the holiday season are the focus of this page and will get your kids reflecting and writing without as much arm twisting.
