 Lesson Plans

Open Wide and Trek Inside (NIH) - Open Wide and Trek Inside, designed for grades 1 and 2, consists of lesson plans, which are accessed through the Teacher's Guide section of the Web site and the multimedia student activities, which are accessed through the Student Activities page.

The Web-based activities for students are only one part of the curriculum unit. The Lesson Plans provide the framework for both the hands-on classroom activities and the Web-based multimedia activities that make up this curriculum supplement. Together, the classroom and multimedia activities enable students to gain a deeper understanding of the science behind this important topic, and how it relates to human health.

Open Wide and Trek Inside, developed with the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), is a creative, inquiry-based instruction program designed to promote active learning. This curriculum supplement is designed to help students develop the following major goals associated with scientific literacy:

To understand a set of basic scientific principles related to oral health.
To experience the process of scientific inquiry, and develop an enhanced understanding of the nature and methods of science.
To recognize the role of science in society and the relationship between basic science and human health

Some parts in Spanish.

Sporttime

It's My Life (PBS Kids) - It's My Life is organized across five topic "channels": Friends, Family, School, Body, and Emotions. Printable activities include journal pages, discussion questions, worksheets, and word puzzles. Lesson Plans on Bullies, Home Alone, Smoking, Eating Disorders, and Drug Abuse.

Crool Zone - Some people call this subject "School Safety." But if schools were always safe places to be, we wouldn't be thinking about safety. So aren't we really talking about "school violence?" The Crool Zone is a series of activities to help explore issues related to school safety.
