Got the e-mail blues? Wish there was a place to
post responses to frequently asked questions? Well, here's a novel solution
- the "PE-Forum."
As some of you are already aware there are many discussion groups and
message boards available onto which you can post questions and chat
with like-minded people. Now you can do the same on the PE-Forum.
While emailings are great for requests and items deserving immediate
attention, for longer exchanges the use of a message board has several
advantages: Postings are all stored in one location and they remain
permanently available. On the PE-Forum you can post or reply, conduct
real time chats, and even talk using your computer microphone! Now the
success of our forum depends on YOU. At least visit and try it
out. It will only take a few minutes to become familiar. Not only might
you want to participate but we think many of you will want to create
your own forums for your school, classes, or organization. Don't
be shy -click here
to try! You can already see information on mountain biking, cooperative
games, floor hockey and more.

PE PUZZLER
Who Said This?
"Many teachers seem to have the
mental constitution to enjoy watching rows of mechanically
arranged children executing their mechanical movements
to command or in rhythm...While this coordinated movement
is attractive to the spectator, what relationship does
it have to the child's life or education?"
(Answer: Clark Hetherington, and
he said it in 1922 - ouch! What does that tell
us?) New puzzler next issue!

Elementary Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a terrific activity, especially

body awareness, self-confidence; as well as increasing areas like strength,
flexibility and endurance. Tom Winiecki tells
you how to do it.
Gymnastics
or the Fear of It
Each
year about this time, the tumbling mats come out, the apparatus
is assembled, and many students cringe and shriek at the word...GYMNASTICS!
According to Gerry Cernicky this doesn't
have to be the case
The
"New" Physical Education and Health Promotion
"Take a look at the "new" physical education, a new philosophy
that is changing the shape of physical activity for our youth. Gone
are the days when physical education felt like boot camp and waiting
to be selected for a team was more dreaded than pimples on prom night.
Today's students are learning..."
