NASPE, Sportime & PELINKS4U Collaborate to Create New NASPE-Forum

This month I am delighted to announce the release of the NASPE-Forum, a new national discussion forum that will focus on physical education and sport issues.

The NASPE-Forum has been designed to complement NASPE-Talk, the existing daily NASPE listserv. Specifically, the goal of the NASPE-Forum is to provide a location for in-depth discussion of issues. The Forum is divided into several sections by main themes, including Elementary PE, Secondary PE, Coaching & Sports, and more. Within each of these sections readers can pose questions, and conduct ongoing discussion on professional issues.

Because the Forum is organized into separate sections, readers can choose to read all postings, or only those of personal interest. Especially helpful is the ability to create a personal reader profile so that, if you wish, you can be notified about responses to questions you pose, or new postings in your areas of interest.

The NASPE-Forum is open to everyone, and can be easily accessed from any PELINKS4U section page, from the NASPE and Sportime web sites and, of course, from a bookmark you might like to create in your browser.

This month we have posted discussion questions on each of our section pages. We encourage you to express your thoughts on these questions by simply clicking the question. You'll be taken directly to the NASPE-Forum where you can respond. Alternatively, you are welcome to post your own questions, or thoughts, on topics that might interest others.

We hope you'll give the NASPE-Forum a try, and use it not only as a place for discussion, but as postings accumulate, as a location to find information and to direct others who might have questions on topics that have been extensively discussed.

Paula Summit, the New York State 2004 AHPERD President, has generously agreed to become the first NASPE-Forum moderator. Paula looks forward to answering any questions and seeing your postings.

Please join us in helping to make the NASPE-Forum a huge success. Visit the Forum to take a look and join the discussion.

Somebody said it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.

So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin.
On his face, if he worried he hid it.
He started to sing and he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least, no one has ever done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.

With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing and he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.

But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.
