It doesn't matter whether you
are new or a teaching veteran. You have a perspective
that counts and is worth sharing. If you just
started, you've undoubtedly faced some situations
for which you wish you were better prepared.
Teacher educators need to hear about your experiences
to help them improve the preparation of future
physical educators.
If you've been teaching for years, you probably
have a firm opinion about our profession - its
opportunities and frustrations. We need to hear
from you before you disappear into retirement
taking years of valuable experiences with you.
Physical education continues to face challenging
times. The academic accountability trend isn't
going away, and simply complaining about a lack
of respect for what we do isn't going to make
the changes we need to be effective. To become
more relevant we have to learn from each other:
the good and the bad.
Becoming more physically active requires regular
effort. Similarly, we need your participation
to improve pelinks4u. We need stories
that other teachers will want to read. We want
to know what's working and what's not. We want
success stories, challenges, and teaching tips.
Your thoughts about what needs to change to
make our profession truly meaningful in the
21st century is exactly what we want.
The new layout of pelinks4u will focus
on stories and personal articles. To contribute
you don't have to be a great writer. You just
need to have an idea or opinion that you're
willing to share with us. We'll help write it
up with you. We also invite you to recommend
people and programs you think physical educators
elsewhere would enjoy reading about. Remember,
being featured in a national publication is
excellent public relations.
This month we are setting out on this new path
and we hope it's a good start. Below are short
introductions to our featured pages. Most of
our stories report in depth on a selected topic.
You'll find some links to related resources,
but our not-so-secret goal is to keep you on-site
long enough for you to pick up a new idea or
two that you might try or share with a colleague.
What we really want is to hear from YOU. You
are responsible for making sure that your school,
district, and state are being featured. Email
us at pelinks@pelinks4u.org
or call 509-963-2384. Have a great 2008 and
encourage your colleagues to visit pelinks4u.
Sincerely,
Steve Jefferies |
