Join us on Saturday, April 24, 2004 for the 4th
Annual Physical Education Activity Kaleidoscope (PEAK) workshop
cosponsored by Central Washington University and the Washington
Alliance for Physical Education, Health, Recreation, and Dance
(WA PEHRD).
Our theme this year is the "NEW" physical education.
We have invited over 20 different presenters to share ideas
on new ways to motivate students towards healthy and active lifestyles.
Our guests include nationally renowned out-of-state speakers,
some of the best presenters from here in the Pacific Northwest,
and a variety of equipment and program exhibitors.

PEAK SPEAKERS
Gloria Naper-Owen
University of New Mexico
Gloria Napper-Owen taught elementary physical
education for ten years and now teaches at the University of
New Mexico. She is a co-author of a new textbook, Elementary
Classroom Teachers as Movement Educators. Gloria regularly presents
at national, district, and state conventions, is the recipient
of numerous awards and is past president of the New Mexico AHPERD.
Deborah Tannehill
Pacific Lutheran University
Deborah teachers physical education
at Pacific Lutheran University. She is a former President of
WAHPERD and
the editor of the NASPE series of books on assessment.
Rene Bibaud

Rene is a five-time World Speed and Freestyle
Rope Jumping Champion. She has appeared on numerous television
and
radio shows and most recently toured North America and Europe
with the Cirque Du Soleil.
Don Fogle

WE CARE sports offer a variety of school assembly
presentations on a variety of movement themes. Don Fogle is not
only teaches and entertains, but is the inventor of many
of the products and activities sold by today's physical education
equipment companies
Ron Malm

Ron Malm is a physical education teacher who recently
created a business named Focused Fitness. His presentation
will be on innovative ways to motivate students of all grades
to develop physical fitness
Gayle See
Walla Walla High School
Gayle was Washington State's first Nationally
Board Certified teacher of physical education. Gayle will be
offering advice and answering questions to teachers who may be
interested in pursuing national certification. Gayle was also
responsible for introducing fly fishing into her physical education
curriculum. In her second session she will explain how
she runs this program.
Lori Bissel

One of the fastest growing school activities has
been the sport of cup stacking. Speedstacks have become the major
sponsors of this sport. Lori will explain how to introduce
it into your program and the benefits for your students.
Joel Zylstra & Leslie Johnson
Pacific Lutheran University
Joel and Leslie are currently completing their
undergraduate physical education teaching degrees at PLU. They
will be explaining and demonstrating how you can implement adventure
education into your school physical education curriculum
Debra D'Acquisto
Central Washington University
Debra is the PE Activity Program Coordinator at
CWU. She also specializes in teaching various types of aerobic
conditioning. In this session, Debra plans to show teachers how
to create an effective strengthening and stretching program on
a low equipment budget.
Andy & Gretchen Jenkins
Central Washington University & Ellensburg Unicycling and Juggling Club
In addition to their regular involvement in university
and school teaching, Andy and Gretchen Jenkins recently became
involved in running a unicycling and juggling club. They plan
to share fund raiding ideas, tips for organizing equipment and
ways to motivate students. Students from the club will also help
to present basic riding skills.
Doug Smith

Doug Smith's enthusiasm for pickleball explains
its popularity in public schools nationwide. Doug will explain
the game, give instruction in basic skills, and provide advice
on equipment.
Therese Young
Central Washington University, Dance Program
Therese is the Director of the CWU Dance Program.
She teaches all types of formal dance but most recently has become
involved in promoting creative movement among elementary aged
students. Therese will explain and demonstrate some of her successful
strategies.
Carol Conkell
University of Idaho
Carol helps to prepare future physical education
teachers at the University of Idaho. She is especially interested
in dance and in this session shows how assessment can be integrated
into a multicultural dance curriculum.
Ken Briggs
Central Washington University, Health Education Program
In addition to teaching health education, Ken
is a renowned speaker on teaching strategies to help students
better connect with classroom content. If you are looking for
ways to jumpstart your teaching, this session is for you!
Lori Dunn
Renton High School
Over the past few years, Lori has moved from middle
school to high school teaching, served as WAHPERD President,
and is the Nortwest District President Elect. Lori was one of
the first physical educators to integrate pedometers into her
curriculum and in this session will explain how she currently
uses portfolios for high school assessment.
Mollie McGoun

Mollie works for the Washington State Dairy Council,
an organization focused on improving children's health. Mollie
will be explaining how education about nutrition can be integrated
into a school physical education and health education program.
Michael Alvick & Terry Latham
Sherwood Forest Elementary
As physical educators well know, fitting the assessment
of learning into a limited amount of PE time is a major challenge.
One of the more promising methods is to make use of emerging
technology. Michael and Terry will be explaining how they have
integrate Filemaker Pro, PDA's, and other technology to address
this challenge.
