There have been quite a few postings recently on the NASPE Listserv asking for help with grants. NASPE is holding a national conference called "Winning Grants for Physical Education: Turning Vision Into Reality" July 21 – 23, 2005 in beautiful Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The conference will help physical educators and school district administrators find funding sources, develop the skills to write grant proposals, and create partnerships to get the funds they need. Participants will leave the conference with the knowledge and motivation to go after new funding sources. The grant writing process will no longer be a mystery, and participants will have the skills and the confidence to write grant proposals for small and large grants. Combine the conference with a family vacation and take advantage of low conference hotel rates. The conference is being held at the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort oceanfront hotel. Enjoy the beach, beautiful pools, fitness club, tennis, golf, and great shopping close by. Reservations should be made right away before rooms fill up at this popular vacation hotel. Complete details and a registration form can be found at www.naspeinfo.org/grantconference. Or, contact De Raynes at draynes@aahperd.org or call 1-800-213-7193 x. 414.

PEP Application Announcement Delayed The Department of Education today did not issue the expected Federal Register notice inviting applications for Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grants for Fiscal Year 2006. February 27 had been their target date in their Forecast of Grant Funding Opportunities published late last year. In a conference call last week, a program specialist in the Department’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, which administers the PEP program, had said the announcement could possibly be delayed until mid-March. The unspecified delay seemed to be coming from more senior levels within either the Department of Education or the Office of Management and Budget. NASPE will continue to monitor the situation and will let our members know as soon as the announcement is published and the competition is opened.
