Although I understand that teaching Physical Education is not about being liked by the students, I also understand that in order to have your students take you seriously there has to be a happy medium. It seems difficult for teachers to motivate their students in the gymnasium anymore if they are not considered to be the right amount of "cool" and the right amount of serious. I know that when I was in high school, there were only 2 Phys. Ed. teachers out of 6 that had the ability to motivate their students to participate appropriately. I guess what I am asking is, are there certain approaches that a new Physical Education teacher should take when starting out the year? Should they be extra tough so they gain respect right off the bat? |
