Coaching - I am a current physical education major and was giving a thought to coaching when I get a job. I only played basketball and snowboarded in high school, but I kind of know a lot about different sports. I was wondering if I wanted to coach if I needed to be an expert at the sport or have played it before to be a successful coach? Please give me some advice. Thanks. Please post in the forum.
Elementary - I work at an elementary school and am currently teaching a floor hockey unit. Today my principal informed me that she received a phone call from a concerned parent regarding safety with floor hockey sticks. I guess last week there was an accident at an elementary school in the US where a kid lost his eye due to a floor hockey stick. What kinds of things do you do to insure safety in floor hockey? Please post in the forum.
Health, Fitness & Nutrition - I actually am a physical education teacher in Illinois and I have a friend who is right now getting her master's degree and is currently doing a research project on the appropriate time sex education should be taught to children. I wanted to post a thread getting others input on this topic just to see what others think. So if you have an opinion about when sex education should be taught and why could you please reply to this thread. Please share in the forum.
Interdisciplinary -I once had some information about a program consisting of quick, brain based activities kids could do at their desks for a quick fitness break in the classroom. I thought it was called "Take Ten" but when I launch a search on the web I can't find it. I anyone out there familiar with this program? Please post in the forum.
Secondary - Hi. I was wondering if you were to do a lesson on skiing or snowboarding, how would you teach it? Could I take the students to a local ski resort or would that be too dangerous or wonder if there wasn't a local resort? Would I simply show a video? Please give me some ideas by posting in the forum. .
Technology - We've all read how PE teachers can use Palm technology and pedometers, but what other ways do you use technology to keep physical education energized and exciting to kids raised in the environment of technology, who are USED to technology? With the technology 'mind set' that kids have today, what are you doing to combine these 2 subjects, which can work together to enhance each other? Please share. Please post in the forum.
