Adapted - I had a question about initial observations when deciding if a student needs to be "formally" tested for APE. Does everyone use a checklist that is designed by the district, OR do you do just an observation of them in class? Is there a checklist published anywhere that might provide more of a subjective observation? Please share in the forum.
Coaching - I was wondering - is it better to minor in coaching, and know a little about the sport you are coaching? What about if you do not have a coaching minor, but know a lot more about a sport then the other person? Obviously knowing everything, and having a minor would be the best, but if the situation comes up for a coaching job, what looks better to the school? Please post in the forum.
Elementary - I am a first year teacher teaching K-1 PE/HLTh. One of my classes comes to me with very few rules from their classroom teacher. I have tried to implement my rules, but they don't seem to listen and follow them. Too often I am forced to sit everyone down and tell them I am disappointed in their "unsafe" behavior. I don't like doing that, but sometimes I have no choice. They are just too unsafe. Does anyone have suggestions to help with an uncontrollable class? Please share in the forum.
Health, Fitness & Nutrition - What should you do with the girls that do not want to change for class because of their weight and bulling from the other girls? Should you just tell them to dress down for school that day so they don't have to change? Please share in the forum.
Interdisciplinary - Have any of you observed what is going on in the regular ed classroom in recent years? Testing has become the end all for everything. In Florida they can be retained for not passing a single test. Is that not the stupidest thing you have ever heard of? It is like state lawmakers have decided teachers are really too stupid to assess kids and make correct decisions. I feel for them and thank God I teach PE.

How do you kill PE? Try and make it like a regular class. Give out lots of handouts on the history of sports, the rules of games, and demand that they actually SIT in a chair and regurgitate it, just like they do for social studies/reading/science etc. Just spend lots of time with them in lines waiting to do some skill that they will hardly ever get to use in some actual game. Make them take written tests often, to show they have "knowledge" of specific games and sports.

BTW, I know there are exceptions to my comments, and I welcome the debate. And I am so glad this forum is actually moving and working now with people getting posting and talking. Keep it up. Please share.

Secondary -I am looking for tips and suggestions on ways to modify a sport game to get more students involved. I've required them to meet goals of say, 4 passes before scoring a touchdown, and playing smaller teams, but feel that something more needs to be done to draw the timid students into action. Any suggestions? Please share in the forum.
Technology - I was wondering in what ways PE teachers are incorporating technology in their Physical Education classes, and how are the students adapting to the technology? Please share in the forum.
