Coaching - I coach boys soccer at the High School level, and am also a Physical Education teacher, not at the same school. My boys address me by my first name mostly because I see them at outside camps and clinics all year round, not in a school setting. I have been confronted by a few that tell me I need to get my boys calling me by coach, or by my Mr. Slusser. I do not see a problem with this, yet I am seeking any other advise or related experiences. Please provide advice, or tell me your experiences.
Elementary - Is health taught in elementary schools? I know that some teachers are assigned to teach a main subject like science, and then are asked to teach health as well. I want to know if Health is a class all by itself and if it's not, why? Please post in the forum.
Health, Fitness & Nutrition - I think that drug education should be a part of the physical education/health curriculum in schools. In my high school we had a two week drug unit where we watched movies, and I think it opened a lot of students' eyes to the consequences and effects of the various drugs. It may have even cut down on the amount of students who would have experimented with the drugs in the future. Please share in the forum.
Interdisciplinary -My school district is saying that I need to have a Math or Reading standard in my lesson everyday. I have a few good ideas, but not enough to get me through the whole year. Does anyone have any good ideas for the Middle School years? Please post.
Secondary - When high students do not change for p.e. at your school, are they still required to participate? I've been subbing this past year and most schools I have been to still have the students participate. I see pros and cons with this and was wondering what everyone else does. I would also like to know at what point do they fail when they don't dress? Please share in the forum.
Technology - Can software be helpful for teaching certain subjects in health? For example teaching nutrition, bones in the body, etc? Or even learning new activities like a proper serve in volleyball or new skills the students may not be familiar with? Please post in the forum.
