ATMOSPHERE
OF CLASSROOM: Hello, I am a junior in college and
enjoy fitness and being active, especially lifting. As a future
Health and PE teacher I was wondering if as a teacher you can be
fully engaged with your students? What I mean by this is can you
run or workout beside them, or would this remove you from your role
as facilitator? Has anyone had success with this, or any advice
for me? Please share in the forum.

CROSS-FIT?:
The new "in" in fitness is Cross-Fit Training. (http://crossfit.com/)This
is high level fitness. Do you believe that bringing this in at the
high school level would be a good or bad thing? I think that the
students will like it, but I also have a feeling that it might go
down hill because of how grueling it can be. Please share in the
forum.

CREATION
OF CURRICULUMS: As an up and coming physical educator,
I find myself curious as to the process of how curricula are created.
I do not fully understand the process. How big of a part does the
district vs the teachers play in creating a curriculum? As a newly
hired teacher, do you generally have to wait before you can make
any changes that you would like? Are you basically stuck teaching
what someone else wants taught? Or does the process and situation
literally differ in every case? I really appreciate any responses.

iTOUCH
APPLICATIONS : Our middle school staff is very interested
in using iTouch technology in their teaching. They have dabbled
in it a bit, but we are looking for more people that have used this
in their teaching. Has anyone used this successfully? How have you
applied this technology to enable your students to learn? Please
share in the forum.

CROSSFIT:
I have recently tried a new workout routine called crossfit.
As a future PE teacher I was wondering if anyone has tried this
in their PE classes, and if so how did your students like it? Please
share in the forum.

START
SPENDING MONEY ON GIRLS: When I went to high school
our girls volleyball team were really good. However, no matter how
many games we won or how far we made it in playoffs our school would
not buy anything new for us. We were in dire need of a new net and
new uniforms. Instead of the school spending money on us, they would
always decide to buy new things for the football team who hadn't
won a single game for the past 64 games. I feel that our school
didn't want to spend money on a girls team when they could spend
it on the boys team. Even though the football had a horrible record
the school wanted them to have all of the best equipment. This never
made any sense to me and I don't think what they did was right.
Does this type of thing only happen at my school or does this happen
to girls teams at other schools too? Please share in the forum.

WOMEN
ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIPS: As a woman and an athlete
it was hard for me to find scholarships. I am a pole vaulter and
it seemed as if though only the guy pole vaulters on my team got
scholarships. Is this how it is at every school? Are there places
to look where I can find scholarships for just female athletes?

DON'T
PRACTICE, DON'T TEACH: Ok, we all have heard the
saying "Practice what you preach", so why is health and
physical education any different? If you cannot pass the various
fitness tests, how can you tell your students to run more and do
more pull-ups. Being a healthy and active role model should be part
of this job, and I feel students look at that more than what you
are teaching in class. So, what do you think? Should health and
PE teachers have some sort of fitness test to become certified in
health and PE? Please share in the forum.
