ADAPTED CLASSES Since we do not know the students that we will have every year in our class we have to be ready to make certain accommodations. Sometimes knowing what accommodations are needed and how to proceed with them are difficult. Would it beneficial to take adapted classes in college to help learn how to make these accommodations?   THE "IT" FACTOR: I've been coaching ice hockey goaltenders for several years now, and have come to notice certain characteristics between many of my students that distinguish them from one another. One of these characteristics iS the ability for one student to progress and grasp concepts much better then others. With that, I can diagram a drill for two students at the same time and have them each perform the drill differently in terms of speed and tempo. Does this difference play into the concept of the "IT" factor - that is that some players have it and others don't? And was is "IT"? Please share in the forum.
REPORT CARDS FOR SPORTS CAMPS: For the past six years, I have been running a summer ice hockey goaltending camp. Each year, parents ask if we provide a "report card" on their child at the end of the week indicating their strengths and weaknesses. We tried this for one summer but felt it went against our ideas. We feel much better sitting down face to face with the students if they want additional feedback. I guess it's the idea that you have something tangible at the end of the week to look back on. Has anyone found a useful application of a "report card" for a sport camp that is beneficial for everyone involved? Please share in the forum.
VALUE OF ADAPTED BACKGROUND: I am not yet a teacher but I wonder how critical it is to have good training in adapted fields before you start into the profession. My college offers an adapted minor, does anyone think that this is something I should try to achieve before finishing school? Please share in the forum.
DISCIPLINE: How would you deal with a student who has gotten in trouble at school or elsewhere but you have never had any problems with him on your team? Would you take disciplinary action against him such as not playing him a game? Please share in the forum.
MOTIVATION: I know from playing sports all my life that there is no better feeling then finally playing against another team, and that is what makes practice so worthwhile. What do you do if there are players on your team that just can't get motivated for practice or even games? Please share in the forum.
RESPECT FROM ATHLETES: Some coaches just tell the athletes what they need to do or how they should do the drills. Although, the athletes may have never seen the coach actually play or demonstrate anything. Do high school students have more respect for coaches who participate during practice?   WOMENS' SPORTS: Why do you think that Womens Sports do not get the same amount of coverage as men sports? Is this something that can fixed? Are there any womens sports that you think are more exciting than the mens game? Please share in the forum.
DODGEBALL IN PE: I know a lot of people and professors at my school say that "if you play dodgeball in PE, you should go up on the wall of shame." Personally I think dodgeball is one of the better activities you can do in PE but I also understand that it can single out students. Maybe not the traditional game of dodgeball but maybe some different versions. Is dodgeball in Physical Education really that harmful to students in an emotional sense? Please share in the forum.
