EATING DISORDERS: eating disorders are a big thing when it comes to high school and it is also a very sensitive topic to bring up. Does anyone have any ideas on how to bring this topic up to parents when you think their child is having an eating disorder. Please share in the forum.
FITNESS TESTING: Our district currently uses the following protocols for our fitness assessment: fitnessgram pacer, push-up, sit and reach, and the curl-up. The only one of these that I find a problem is the curl-up. I find that student reliability is low with this test. They all perform it in different ways. Some students that have low muscular endurance are able to do well because they shrug their shoulders which aids them in the completion of a rep. I feel that the Traditional sit up with a crossed arm modification would serve us better. Does any one have any thoughts on this? Please share in the forum.
HEALTHY TEACHERS: Does a health & physical education teacher have the responsibility to live out a healthy, physically active lifestyle? How does an overweight physical education teacher affect the perception of his/her students? Please share in the forum.
PICKING TEAMS: What is a good way to pick/assign teams without someone having to be picked last, and having the teams equal in different skill levels? Please share in the forum.
GRADING THE MILE RUN: I have talked with my department on our grading policy. I just want to know how other people assess the mile run. Do you grade strictly on performance? If so what do you do for those students that are very over weight and can not physically make the cut-off time? Please share in the forum.
WARM UP IDEAS: I will be teaching elementary students a progressive dynamic warm-up. Is that too soon to be teaching locomotor movements? Some ideas are lunges, arm circles, neck rotations, caricoa, high knees and butt kicks. Do you have any ideas that could make the warm-up more fun to get the students more excited? Please share in the forum.
NEED PE TEACHER: Sequim School District need a full time elementary PE teacher. see Sequim School District web page for posting and application process. Please share in the forum.
PE MAKE-UP ACTIVITIES : We are looking for examples of how high schools are allowing students to make-up points missed due to absences from Physical Education class. We currently require students to peform 45 minutes of activity outside of school, and have a parent/guardian verify the activity for a student to earn back points missed. We feel this option is being abused at our school. What options do you give your students to make-up excused absences? If you have students come before or after school to make-up their points, what do you have them do? Please share in the forum.
