SPREADING THE WORD:I am a student nearing the end of my certification at Slippery Rock University in PA. I have done some extensive research, and have explored the influx of studies indicating the benefits of PE. Not only the physical benefits but the mental and learning benefits as well.

My question relates to strategies I can use to spread useful and educational information around my community about the benefits of PE. I began my education as a student with a love for Physical Education, but have turned into a strong believer and advocate for maximal PE in our schools. What are some strategies that some of you out there have used to enlighten the many people who are still in the dark about how important PE really is? Please share in the forum.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION BLOG: There is a new physical education blog that started around the beginning of 2009. It has lesson ideas, fitness concepts, book & product reviews and much-much more. New content is added every week. Visit this thread.
BARE FEET IN PHYS ED: At my previous school, we observed third grade students participating in a gymnastics unit with bare feet. The reasoning behind this was that it encourages proper development and strength in the feet/toes/ankles. A letter was sent home to the parents to explain the unit, and to inform them that the mats were cleaned regularly.

What are some opinions regarding students having bare feet in class? Please share in the forum.

PE TOO SOFT?: Is Physical Education becoming too soft? Please share in the forum.
FEEDBACK ON PE METRICS: NASPE is very excited that the first installment of PE Metrics has been released. It contains the assessments for Standard 1, elementary school level, grades K, 2, and 5. In addition, it contains a CD so that the teacher will always have a clean copy of the assessment at hand. AND, it contains a Dartfish DVD that shows the Level 3, competent, performance of each of the skills as well as short vignettes of common errors. Let us know what you think of the entire package, and we will use your feedback when we produce the Secondary Standard 1 book, Grade 8 and HS. Visit this in the forum.
