DRESS CODE: I coach an inner city Middle School basketball team. I feel that on game days students should wear a shirt and tie on the bus to games, or at least a school warm up. My reasoning for this is that when entering other schools the team looks more professional, and from experience in having to wear a shirt and tie to games when I was a player this seems to bring more positive feedback from the schools we play against or set up exhibition games with. Does anyone have either other reasons supporting my thought or reasons why this is probably not a big deal?

THE
STEREOTYPICAL GOALKEEPER: So from a young age
many people think that being a goalkeeper in some sports means
that "they must not be very good, or they are slow and lazy so
just stick them in the goal." Personally, as a goalkeepeer in
soccer I find this offensive and totally untrue. I find myself
working ten times harder than field players in soccer because
I have to be good with my hands and my feet. I am sure this is
the case for many other sports as well. So, what are your thoughts
on this topic? Do you feel that this stereotype is negative and
should try to be eliminated? Please share in the forum.

TIME
OUT IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Recently I have observed
a 3rd and 4th grade physical education class. Throughout the class
there was a few misbehaving children. The teacher puts them in
'time out' in the corner where they sat down and did no activity.
The children were practicing soccer passes with a partner, but
when their partner was sent to time which meant that 'well behaved'
child did not have anyone to practice with. How would you correct
a child who is misbehaving without taking away their physical
education (active) time? Please share in the forum.

DANCE CLASSES AS CREDIT FOR PE: At my high school, dance classes were offered to those that were not interested in sports but yet liked staying active. Dance class could be taken in replace of a physical education class. What are some thoughts on this? Should it be allowed? I mean if this was provided in every school district do you think it will take away from the students learning? They should be provided with choices right? And also keep in mind those teachers that would be teaching dance as a substitute for physical education will have a degree in both PE and Dance (mandatory).

ZUMBA:
Zumba is something new and exciting that is starting to be incorporated
into the PE curriculum (Zumba fitness-teens/adults and Zumbatomic-children).
Zumba is a way to get those that do you not like running laps
up and moving. The music and movement is very upbeat. The students
are learning the basic steps of Cumbia, Reggaeton, Merenge, and
Salsa. Do you think that dance should be incorporated into the
PE classroom? Why or why not? And should a physical educator be
allowed to teach dance? Please share in the forum.

ONCE
A WEEK?: It's hard to believe that some school
districts only require physical education once a week - if that.
Would you recommend giving the students something to do in their
community if they aren't playing on a sports team, or doing a
physical extra-curricular activity to maybe give them some type
of credit? Since one class a week isn't allowing the students
to get their physical activity each day, giving them credit for
outside activities could be some sort of motivation. What are
your opinions on this? Please share in the forum.

PUBLICITY IN WOMEN'S SPORT: Did you know that a 20-year study of network and cable by USC & Purdue sociologists found that men took 96% of sports news in 2009. This fact really makes you question the equal rights for women in the media. I think we all know that men's sports are a lot more publicized than women's. Why is that though? What can we do to make a change? I know as a women I am very interested in seeing highlights of both men's and women's sports. What are your thoughts?
