ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION:I am a senior at Slippery Rock University. Right now, I am taking an Adaptive Physical Education class. I have this student I work with that has severe Autism. He is non-verbal and has low motor skills. All class we walk around with him because he likes to move. We try to incorporate him in some of the activities but he either doesn't want to do it or is bored of the activity so we walk him around the room again. I was just wondering if there were any activities that we could do with him to get him more involved? Please share in the forum. |
ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Last night I was working with the AVS program in the pool. My student had a severe intelletual disability and was non-verbal. She did not like to be around the other students or around any equipment in the pool. Her aid told me to just let her float in the deep end of the pool. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on trying to get her to do anything besides float. I felt like it was defeating the purpose of getting her moving If i just "let her float" Please share in the forum. |
TEAM CAPTAIN ISSUES: As a coach how would you handle issues with team captains? Say you appoint one that people do not respond well to at all. In fact he is not liked, nor respected by the team much at all. However, he is the star point guard and leads above everyone else in scoring. However when he is in the game none of the other teammates work half as hard as they do when the other point guard is in. The other captain approaches you about this. What do you do about it? Do you take away the C on his jersey? Do you appoint another captain midway through the season? Or do you let the team keep falling apart game by game? Please share in the forum. |
COACHING: How important is it for a team to bond? When is there too much? How do you prevent teams from getting so close that they goof off at practice and see the sport as a basis for sharing new gossip and making plans for the night/weekend? What can you do as a coach when this happens and a handful of players are left out? Please share in the forum. |
MOST OVER-RATED TEAM ATTRIBUTE - CHEMISTRY: It is of my personal coaching belief that there is nothing more important to a team than chemistry. This word gets tossed around alot, especially in the professional and media world, but its value can not be overlooked when assessing it as a true attribute to your team. I assess chemistry through a multitude of ways, and while you can't always fix it or force it to be there, your only chance to help your team find it is to see it as a coach... NEED FLEXIBILITY HELP: I am a Phys. Ed major and the biggest problem that I have is that I am not flexible at all. I can't even touch my toes. I don't want to go out and get a job as a PE major and not be able to show my students the proper forms of stretching. I stretch almost everyday but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?!? GRADING: Im a Health and Phys Ed major at Slippery Rock University and I've often wondered how to go about grading once I get my own classroom. I definitely know its not fair to grade the basketball star the same way as someone who struggles with activities. I was curious as to ways different teachers grade in hope to find my own way. Thank you! Please share in the forum. |
VIRTUAL BICYCLES THAT TRAVEL THROUGH GOOGLE EARTH: I had recently heard and rode on a bike where you raced a computer as an exercise program. I was doing some research on them and realized that there is now one that travels you through Google Earth as you peddle. Are these being used in the school districts and how effective do you think they are with students? Please share in the forum. |
