Locker Room, gym clothes, locks!: Hi. I'd love to have your input on a few things!
Do any of you have certain protocols for the locker room as it pertains to locks and gym clothes? I have students who are forgetful and either don't lock their lock, or lose their gym clothes. Others leave their clothes behind and before I know it, I have a full bag of lost and found items. Do any of you have ideas that have helped alleviate this kind of problem for your classes? Cultural Diversity in Physical Education: I am currently in an undergraduate program working towards my elementary eduation licensure. A few weeks ago, in my human diversity course, we discussed the issue of physical contact within the muslum community and how it may be inappropriate for a young boy to touch a young girl; ex. holding hands, social dancing, etc. Has anyone ran into issues like these in their teaching and if so how did you address it? Pelinks4u December 2008 editorial: What do you think? Should affective skills be the primary goal of public school physical education? Dr. Hedlund presents a strong case for caution in an excessive focus on skills and fitness. Given the time limitations we face what is a realistic and achievable approach? How can we get the public to take what we do seriously? Please share in the forum. |

Jump Rope For Heart/Hoops For Heart: Has anyone heard of Jill Strong? We are having her do a jump rope demo at our school....just wondering if anyone has seen her perform. Please share in the forum. No Passes Out of Class: I have a rule in my class that no matter the deal, there are no passes given to other classes during my class. If you have a test, take it on your own time. If you need to go to the library, you should have planned ahead because I'm sure 'you' didn't just receive that assignment. Now, there are few and I mean very few exceptions, but is this too harsh? In an attempt to bring validity to PE in our high school, I'm trying to set the standard higher. I'm trying to make people aware that this class is just as important as that math, science, social studies, or English class. I tell the students that and some (mostly freshmen) can't believe I'd do deny such a thing. However, I think I'm right on point. Am I willing to work with other teachers on special cases (mainly because my principal excuses certain students), yes, I am.
So again. . .what are your thoughts? Please share in the forum. |
Physical Education seen as joke: I am tired of telling people that I am a Physical Education and Health major and hearing their negative comments. They think that I am majoring in Physical Education because it is "easy." When in actuality it is a very demanding major. I take pride in what I have accomplished so far in the major and what I am planning on for the future. If there is anyone else who deals with (or has dealt with) these same problems how do you approach/handle it. I want to prove to people that Physical Education is extremly essential and one of the best classes every student will take. Please share in the forum. |
