188 This+past+school+year%2c+I+attended+a+workshop+for+area+physical+educators%2e++One+of+my+former+college+professors+presented+one+of+the+sessions+on+%26quot%3bGetting+the+Most+Out+of+Tumbling+Mats%2e%26quot%3b++He+found+the+information+in+a+text+book+for+middle+school+physical+education%2e++I+tried+some+of+the+simpler+ideas+with+my+elementary+physical+education+classes+%28K%2d4%29%2e++They+thoughly+enjoyed+the+team+and+cooperative+aspects+of+the+unit%2e++Using+the+mats+that+fold+up+and+scooter+boards%2c+dividing+the+classes+into+%26quot%3bteams%2c%26quot%3b+they+were+given+the+assignment+of+moving+their+%26quot%3bboats%26quot%3b+across+the+gym+floor+in+the+most+efficient+manner%2e++Whatever+a+team+suggested+all+the+teams+had+to+try%2e++Some+suggested+%26quot%3beveryone+use+their+hands%2c%26quot%3b+or+%26quot%3beveryone+use+feet+only%2c%26quot%3b+and+even+some+suggested+folding+the+mats+up+like+a+canoe%2e++A+great+unit+on+cooperation%2c+teamwork%2c+problem+solving%2c+critical+thinking+and+gross+motor+movement%2e++All+my+students%2c+including+my+special+needs+children%2c+experienced+a+certain+level+of+accomplishment+and+success%2e++Isn%27t+that+what+we+are+all+about%3f++There+are+many+more+possibilities+that+could+be+presented+on+a+middle+and+secondary+level+utilizing+the+tumbling+mats%2e++I+would+like+to+hear+of+some+other+cooperative+lessons%2funits+that+have+worked+for+other+physical+educators%2e
