Selecting and purchasing a camera is the first challenge. It is important to know what you plan to use the camera for prior to deciding on features of your camera. For example, will you be printing photos (8x10 size) for the bulletin board, inserting into presentations, or using the photos on the internet? In addition to your desired use, cost might be the determining factor, but with so many models available it is good to have some features in mind. The following features are important to consider in your purchase:
(1)Megapixels this determines picture size and quality, not many recreational users need more than 4.0 megapixels
(2)Optical zoom it is always best to move closer to your subject compared to using the zoom, but a 3X zoom is handy for most situations.
(3)Batteries finding a camera that has rechargeable batteries is a great feature to consider compared to batteries that can only be purchased at camera or specialty stores.
(4)Ease of use can you use the camera without referring to the owners book. If so you will enjoy your camera more!
(5)Storage how many pictures can you capture both internally and externally. Most often you will need to purchase a larger (128-256 MB) storage card for your camera.
