REVIEW
Healthy Breaks has six main topics, those six topics are
quieting and meditative techniques, esteem building, social
wellness activities, cooperative games, inclusion games, and
energizing activities. Each topic is gone over in great detail
through out the book. The book is designed for kindergarten
to sixth grade students. Each chapter topic is broken down
for each age group.
Within each chapter there are activities that are broken
down in two parts kindergarten to third gradem and fourth
grade to sixth gradem but this may vary based on the activity.
Each activity also has a NHES standard and a NASPE standard.
Each activity is given a time frame, procedure, and equipment
need.
Both of these things are beneficial when a teacher is going
through these activities. They can budget for the activity
and plan out the time need. Another positive to these activities
is at the end of the activity instructions is safety concerns
and tips and variations. These categories are important for
each activity because you want to be conscious of your students'
safety and you want to be able to change the activity so it
stays fresh. Some of the activities given share picture examples
that you can use to show your students. This will help them
to understand what is to be done and will help you to explain
the activity.
Another part of this book that I like is at the beginning
of each chapter is a brief explanations as to why these activities
are important and how they can benefit you and your students.
I would say a downfall to this book is that not every activity
can be used at each grade level. The teacher can modify the
activity to make it appropriate for their class but it would
have been nice to have the option already.
Overall, the eBook was well written and easy to follow. It was broken down into six well-organized chapters with multiple activities for each chapter and each grade level. If you are a teacher that is looking for activities to do with your students to calm them down, build them up, or stretch their minds and physical ability I would suggest this book for your class.
