      • Once 10 students are in this area, the stopwatch stops.
    • Class gets credit for 1,000 miles on the map for every 1:00 that they jumped.
    • Class also gets the chance to earn extra credit mileage.
      • Teacher picks one of the jumpers that used up all of their lives but were continuing to jump behind the purple line.
      • Give that person a hand held pulse monitor.
      • If their heart rate is within the target range (150-180), they earn a "free 1,000 miles" for their class.
Muscle of the week:
  • "Gas-Trucks" (Gastrocnemeous) &endash;Introduce "calf stretch"
  • From "push-up position".
  • Step on one heel with the other foot.
  • Press the heel down that you are stepping on.

    • Stand sideways and do everything that you would do to throw a ball.
    • Step with your front foot.
    • "Throw" with your back hand.
    • Follow through by pointing at your target.
    • Make contact with the heel of your "throwing" hand.
Application:
  • Messy Backyard (with serves).
    • Divide class in half,
    • On signal, each team tries to serve all volleyballs to the other side.
    • On whistle, each team gets one point for each ball on the other side of the gym.
    • Try to beat team's previous score to "win" round.
      • If any team throws a ball after the whistle, the other team gets all the points.
    • *Stress proper technique…
      • Repeat with different serve techniques
  • Stop game part way through to have kids take their pulse (for :06, then add a "0" to the number to get beats/minute).
  • Anyone who's heart rate is within the target range (150-180) are told that they are playing the game at the right speed.
  • This makes the game "aerobic."
    • Meaning that it takes a lot of breathing to play this game!
