Equipment needed:
- Volleyball poles (2)
- Green volleyball nets (2)
- Eye bolt for wall (1)
- Beach balls (20)
Warm up:
- Snake in the grass
- Use net as boundary: anyone touching the net, touching the red
line under the net, or touching the blue base of the pole is automatically
caught and turns into a snake
- Choose 2-3 students to be the 1st snakes and they lie on bellies
with eyes closed
- Pretend to be asleep (no snoring, because snakes don't snore!)
- Everyone else must be touching a snake in a polite spot with their
fingers
- On "go" snakes wake up and try to slither after others
- Anyone caught becomes a snake
- Re-start game with the last kids left
Skill Development:
- All with a partner and a beach ball to share (sit foot to foot under
the net)
- How many toss and catches can you and your partner get over the net?
- Catch with 2/1 hands
- How many in :30?
- How many in 1:00?
- How many tap and catches can you and your partner get over the net
(tap it overt the net and your partner catches it)
- Tap with 2/1 hands
- How many in :30?
- How many in 1:00?
Application:
- Messy backyard with beach balls
- Divide class in 1/2
- Each with own ball
- On "go" groups try to toss ball to self and tap it over the net
- Must stay on their side of the net
- Get one point for every ball on the other side when the whistle
blows
- Any tap after the whistle blows results in the other team
getting all of the points
- See if the teams can "win" the round by getting more points
than before
