Rhythms 1
Gr. K-2
Class 1
Equipment needed:
Warm up:
- Stop and go.
- All move around the gym on signal.
- Stop on "freeze!"
- Use different locomotor movements.
Skill Development:
- Continue warm up and make a shape when you freeze.
- How many different shapes can we come up with?
- Introduce "self space."
- The space that is around you.
- You can share it with someone, but no one can ever take it
from you!
- How crooked can you make your self space.
- Repeat with different shapes.
- Straight, wiggly, low, tall, round, flat, square.
- Repeat with different letters of the alphabet.
- All with a partner.
- How close can you get to your partner's self space
without touching it?
- The closer your self-space gets to theirs, the more
powerful you both become. Can you feel the power building
up in you?
- Introduce "general space."
- The space that is all around you.
- How big would general space be if the dividing door was
open?
- See how long they can run around in general space without
touching anyone else.
- Tell them that if they keep going without touching
anyone they will stay in the gym, even if another class
comes down for their gym class.
- Once two people touch, we will not get another
turn!
Application:
- Tunnel tag.
- Choose 3-4 kids to be "it."
- They carry a pinnie in one hand.
- Everyone else tries to get away.
- If caught, you have to stand with your legs apart and "give
the international signal for touchdown" (hands over your
head).
- Are back in the game when someone crawls through your
tunnel and you say "thank you."
- Spaceship blastoff.
- All at one end of the gym..
- Teacher stands in the middle
- On the call "spaceship blastoff" the kids try to get to the
other side of the gym (are safe if they get to the red
line).
- Anyone caught freezes.
- Those that were caught are now taggers also. They wait on
the green and white line with the teacher until he says
"spaceship blastoff" again.
- AT END OF BOTH GAMES ASK CLASS IF THE GAME WAS A "SELF
SPACE" GAME OR A "GENERAL SPACE" GAME? OR WAS IT A GAME THAT HAD
BOTH PARTS IN IT? WHY? WHERE?
