This obstacle course is dedicated to the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Each station has a copy of the book and a picture of the page where the idea of the station came from. When describing each station, give a little information about each book, especially the ones with a moral involved. Music from Seussical was taped with 1:30 minutes of music and 10 seconds of silence (for cleaning up) and the children moved when the music stopped.
Happy Birthday to You!
Set up a birthday cake with a big bucket, laundry basket, pail, and styrofoam cylinder on top as a candle. Toss yarn balls at the candle while standing on a spot.
Hop on Pop
Hop on a hoppity hop or pogo stick.
Sneetches
Toss a rubber star on the stomach of a picture of a Sneetch.
Tooth Book
Swing on the rope from the pile of mats to a landing mat while holding the teeth.
Yertle the Turtle
Stack the plastic cups in one stack, or in a pyramid fashion.
Fox in Socks
Stack the rubber bricks, and throw the socks, with a ball inside, at the stack.
500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins
Put a winter hat on a ball, carry it on the small balance beam, in and out of the cones and put another hat on the ball and continue the small course again.
Cat in the Hat
Toss the animal beanbags through the holes in the target, decorated with Cat in the Hat pictures.
King's Stilts
Walk on stilts around the cone and back.
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
Toss the rubber ring on the peg of the coat rack, which is lying on the floor, while standing on a spot.
The First of Octember
Ride on a scooter board while holding a picture of a TV, to the cones and back.
Green Eggs and Ham
Using a spatula, pick up the green eggs and ham and toss onto the paper plate on the placemat. The eggs were made by sewing white felt together with a green yolk and a hopscotch rubber token inside. The ham was green felt with a rubber spot inside.
The Foot Book
Step on the plastic sheet with footprints on it. The red prints are the right feet and the black ones are the left. If there is a box drawn around the prints then you jump. If there is no box, then you hop or walk. A partner should stand on the end so the plastic does not slip.
