By Jean Blaydes

Objective: Students will become acquainted with member of the group by selecting partners and having conversations. The teacher can establish classroom management strategies.

Cognitive Link: We have a social brain. Physical activity and positive social feedback raise endorphin levels. When you walk you want to talk because of the brain's physiology. Music helps control behavior..

Equipment: Upbeat Music

Organization: Students will group according to the teacher's direction Students need enough room to move

Anticipatory Set: TEACHER'S QUOTE: "Let's get to know each other better. When the music begins, mingle around the room giving a handshake, high-five, or smile to as many people as possible before the music ends. When the music stops, shake the hand of the person closest to you and say Thank you for being partner #1."

Activity: Have a conversation with Partner #1: What do you want to learn today? Celebrate with a special handshake. Find Partner #2 by taking fifteen steps in any direction. The person closest to you becomes Partner #2. The conversation is "What do you know about the brain?" Include a special affirmation handshake. Find Partner #3 by moving to the music until you pick someone or they pick you as Special Partner #3. Tell Partner #3 a joke. Celebrate with a handshake.

Closure: TEACHER'S QUOTE: "Now you have three people in the room to connect with as we
do our group work and lessons today."
