SHINY CLEAN DANCE CREATIVE RHYTHMIC ACTIVITY PERSONAL HYGIENE Objective: Students will create a dance that emphasizes the importance of personal hygiene. Cognitive Link:Healthy active children are better learners. Humans have a social brain that likes to work together with other humans. Clean humans are preferred. :0) The brain is a pattern seeker. Academic Concepts: Hygiene, germs Equipment: The song The Shiny Clean Dance performed by the Learning Station (available from Action Based Learning) Organization: Students will work individually in self-space Anticipatory Set: Teacher's Quote: "Look at your hands. Right now thousands of germs and bacteria are waiting to jump from your hands into your mouth or eyes to make you sick unless you used soap and water the last time you washed your hands. When is the last time you washed your hands? When and why should you wash your hands? This song is about keeping our bodies clean so we can be healthier." Activity: The students listen to the song, The Shiny Clean Dance. The students create rhythmical movements that interpret the text. Choose several or all students to demonstrate their creations. Play the song again. As the teacher points to a student, he/she leads the other students in his/her pattern that corresponds with the words of the song. The combination of patterns becomes the dance. Closure: Teacher's Quote: "Washing your hands should become an important habit. Clean hands make us healthier." |
