Group Game

Objective: Students will experience the earth and moon rotating around the sun.

Cognitive Link: Kinesthetic learning helps bring the abstract into the concrete. Using more of the senses anchors learning. Three memory pathways help retain information.

Equipment: None

Organization: Divide into groups of 3. Person #1 is the sun and makes a large circle with their arms above the head. Person #2 is the earth and makes a small circle with their arms in front of the body. Person #3 is the earth’s moon and makes a very small circle with their hands in front of their body.

Anticipatory Set: Teacher's Quote:”Find two other people in the room that you think are out of this world. Form a group of three people. Let’s discover how the earth rotates around the sun.”

Activity: The sun stands in the center and rotates very slowly. The earth rotates around and around while rotating around the sun. The moon rotates very fast around the earth while the earth is rotating around the sun.

Teacher's Quote: “Turn to your group and say, You are out of this universe!”
