Welcome back!
This is my second stab at this, so cross your fingers and maybe
I'll get a little better with time. I received some very welcome
feedback and some great ideas. One of the these fit right in with
what I was going to do this time, so thanks to Diane Baker you will
be getting some novel ideas using shoe boxes.
We would like your input, so please feel free to email any
of the section editors below to share comments, internet sites,
ideas or more with us and the other professionals around the globe!
Thanks.

I'm worried about
too much yoga.
Just what will I get for my pains?
If I stand on my head every morning
I'll end up with varicose brains.

What's old becomes new again
Simple rule of thumb - Don't throw anything away - recycle it.
Ever wondered what to do with those old broken hoops? Take two cones
add one broken hoop and get an instant soccer goal.

Use one broken hoop and one large cone to make another type of goal
or tunnel to go under.

Use a broken hoop and then cut a small X in the side of the cone
to insert the other end of the hoop for anther type of goal or target.

For a quick goal or target use segmented hoops. Take one end apart
and turn out the two end pieces, then put them inside of a cone.
It can be put upright or bent over to use like a basketball goal.

Now for a little strength and conditioning. Take some old soda bottles and
fill them with sand then put the cap back on. Viola' instant
weights! Small ones weigh about 1 pound, the medium (16 oz.) weighs
about 1 1/2 pounds and the one liter size weighs about 2 pounds.

Here are some MPEGS of students performing different weight lifting
exercises. You will need Real Player or Windows Media Player to
view these.
Curls
Lateral Raises
Tricep Extensions
Butterflies
These of course are just examples. You may do any exercise that
you would normally do with any weights just a lot cheaper.

Hot, humid days got you or your students down? Finding it hard
to motivate them to jog, run or walk any distance. Fill up a large
plastic bottle with water add a squirt nozzle and BAM! You've
just kicked it up a notch. My students will do just about anything
to get a squirt of water or let me spray their hot little faces
with the nozzle set on mist.

Shoe boxes are a shoe in for Phys Ed fun!
Box hockey - has been shared around the newsletter circuit.
Stuff empty boxes with scrunched up newspaper. Securely tape with
duct tape or other strong stuff. Great for kicking games on hard
surface. Have lots of extra shoe
boxes on hand for the day's lesson, and of course, a handy roll
of duct tape for quick fixes.
Two Square - one player in each square and one player "in
line" who acts as referee. Attempt to kick box so it slides across
opponent's back line. If either player kicks box across a sideline
that player is "out." The referee enters and starts new game. For
experienced players add a "two touch" rule. Players may not step
over center line.

Appreciate your vision- Two players with one shoe box, a
blindfold and 2 small cones. The sighted player coaches blindfolded
player to kick box into the goal.
Happy Birthday- Hockey groups of 4 players in 2 opposing
teams. Players form 2 goals by placing cones equally distant from
center line. Players may not step across center line. Players work
as a team. 1st player passes box toward center line (Happy) 2nd
kicks it hard (Birthday) to score goal by
kicking it between opponent's cones. Opponents attempt to trap box
with their feet and score with two offensive touches.
Two on Two- Decide how big is the court, how wide are the
goals, which team gets possession first. After one pass defense
may steal the box from offense. When one team scores the other team
restarts the game.
Hint:
when the other team has the box and is getting close to your goal,
you or your partner should stand between the cones and play goalie.
Special thanks go out to Diane Baker for submitting these ideas.
