Welcome to "Adapted PE" on PELINKS4U. This issue focuses on assessment. This topic has been discussed at different times on the APE listserves. Both general physical educators and adapted physical educators should understand assessment as it relates to planning and programming for students with disabilities. There are three main components that one should be familiar with on the topic of assessment; the legal mandates for assessment, assessment tools, and programming based upon the assessment. The links on this page are to assist all physical educators with their understanding of assessment, conduction of assessments, and implementation of assessment results for individuals with disabilities. Sites within this area include information directed toward different tools that may be used for assessment of motor skills. Adapted PE Assessment Instruments This website provides a list and description of various assessment tools. Pro-Ed Online PRO-ED, Inc. publishes, produces, and sells books and curricular therapy materials, tests, and journals dedicated to: • psychology, • special education, • early intervention, and • speech, language, and hearing. SMART START Preschool Movement Curriculum Book: SMART START Preschool Movement Curriculum for Children of All Abilities, by Janet A. Wessel and Lauriece L. Zittel.

National Lekotek Center Dedicated to making play accessible to all children. This site is the country's central source on toys and play for children with special needs. Here you will learn about Lekotek's play centered programs, and access a wealth of resources on opening up the world of play to children with special needs. Special Child Magazine This site is an online publication dedicated to parents of children with special needs.
