At the recent AAHPERD Convention
in Orlando we heard several times about the progress of the Physical
Education for Progress Act (PEP). $400 million is being requested to
support quality PE programs. Currently, 18 senators are supporting the
proposed bill, but many more are needed to ensure success. Is YOUR senator
a supporter? Visit NASPE's PEP
web page and check. At the WeNeedPE
web site there is a form letter you can e-mail directly to your senator
urging support. Please urge colleagues, parents, and students to visit
this site and complete the easy-to-submit form. This is a critical time.

No way! And here's why... Empowering Women in Sports As a result of Title IX, women and girls have benefited from more athletic participation opportunities and more equitable facilities. But women and girl athletes have yet to reach parity with men. Physical Activity & Sport in the Lives of Girls Girls should be encouraged to get involved in sport and physical activity at an early age because such involvement reduces the likelihood of developing a number of deleterious health-related conditions.
